Background
What is Reuters Stock Buzz Powered by SocialPicks?
Reuters Stock Buzz is a community for stock market investors to share investment ideas, exchange market research, and track peers' investment performance. Reuters Stock Buzz also tracks picks by gurus (e.g. Warren Buffett & Jim Cramer), professional analysts, and various financial bloggers so you can see how well you perform against them.
How did it get started?
We looked around on the web and found that a lot of investment sites tell you that the way
to become a good investor is to put in the hours and learn how to properly determine an investment's
true worth. That hasn't changed, but we don't think that people are therefore destined to adopt a
lone wolf approach to investing. We've learnt through experience that if you put sharp people together,
they feed on each others' strengths and can pool together a broader set of resources and ideas. Reuters Stock Buzz
is our way of putting that into practice. We want to build an investment community that helps individual investors
discover, analyze and evaluate new investment opportunities together.
Who's behind all these?
We met during our time in Stanford's graduate programs in business, engineering and finance, and have joined Silicon Valley's entrepreneurial community. Great thanks go out to the many people who are helping us as we progress towards our goal!
Performance Calculation
How is the Reuters Stock Buzz Rank calculated?
The Reuters Stock Buzz Rank is calculated using the following metrics:
Average Return of Picks
The average,non-weighted rate of return of all picks. Active picks are treated with higher significance than historical picks.
% Allocation of Portfolio
If the user also tracks the allocation percentage of stocks in portfolio,
the weighted portfolio return is incorporated in the score calculation.
Accuracy
The percentage of accurate picks on the list.
An active pick is considered accurate as long as its gain is above 0%, while
a historical (closed) pick is considered accurate only if its gain is above 5%.
Points
A percentage of the SP Score is determined by the user's "points".
The total number of "points" collected by the user indicates the quality of the analyses perceived by the Reuters Stock Buzz community.
The points/idea rate indicates the perceived quality & trustworthiness for each of the user's pick while the performance unfolds.
Please see the next section for more details.
What is the number in the box besides each pick?
That is the Reuters Stock Buzz point system.
Each pick has "points" that indicate the quality of the analysis perceived by the Reuters Stock Buzz community.
A user with a higher SP score will have a higher vote weight.
- When the investor shares a new pick, the pick's point is initialized proportionally to his/her SP Rank at the time
- When a user votes on the pick, the voter's SP Rank at that time will be added proportionally to the pick's total points.
Whenever you feel the investor has offered a quality insight, you can give him a pad on the back by
voting the pick up. The points received would also impact an investor's SP Rank.
Why is the performance of my picks not always up to date?
We re-calculate every member's performance a few times every day.
If you see your performance is not up-to-date, please don't worry!
It will be calculated within a few hours at most.
How is the starting price of a pick determined?
The starting price of a pick is determined with the following guideline:
If entered during market hours:
the pick's starting price will be re-adjusted to reflect the delayed quote within 20 minutes.
If entered during market close:
the pick's starting price will be re-adjusted to next market open price.
What are community points?
Community points are awarded after completing certain actions. They are designed to complement performance rating
as a token of a user's credibility, measuring community involvement. Community points can be both awarded and deducted.
Community points are award according to the following table:

If you are logged in, you'd be able to see the similarity between you & any given investor on Reuters Stock Buzz.
We truly believe in the importance of relevancy when it comes to investing -
a top-performing daytrader's recommendation would not be so important to you if your investment strategy
is buy-and-hold. Reuters Stock Buzz determines the similarity between two investors based metrics including
investment style, risk profile, sectors & industries of interest, avg pick duration and age.
Blogger Tool ...
What is a "tracked account"?
Reuters Stock Buzz scours the web and automatically tracks performance of notable financial bloggers,
various wall street legends, and professional analysts.
You can see how similar you are to these experienced investors/analysts, as well as how well you perform against them.
For each post on a financial blog, if there is an implied sentiment we will map it
to either a POS, NEG or HOLD. If the blog post does not imply a sentiment at all,
we would not track it.
The sentiment is automatically determined by Reuters Stock Buzz from the blog post and should not be recognized as a position recommendation by the blogger.
